Bit by bit
bitfish is a small software and game developer based out of Ohio in the United States that is currently building the video game Wayward Beyond, and the Swordfish engine behind it.
By focusing on the user first, bitfish aims to deliver fun, creative, and immersive experiences to players as well as innovative solutions to developers.
Wayward Beyond

A retro-future sandbox RPG set in a frontier era galaxy with procedurally-generated elements. Create, explore, trade, and battle to stake your claim among the stars of a wild galaxy!
Development has been ongoing since Q4 2025 and a free playtest will be launching soon on Steam. Development will be open to user feedback to help shape the game before moving into Early Access.

Swordfish Engine

A code-first C# engine built on ECS and multithreading with high performance and modding in mind. Swordfish is highly modular with a data-oriented design philosophy intended to give flexibility and stability to developers, as well as freedom and performance to players.
Development has been ongoing since 2021 and started with large game worlds in mind. It is being used to build Wayward Beyond as both a showcase of the engine and to meet the performance & modding demands of the game. Today it is fully featured with rendering, UI, ECS, input, audio, and asset management. Networking, scripting, and a visual editor are works in-progress.
